What can we learn from the Great Wall and Chery Australian Recall?

An international auto news outlet says the Chinese automakers have been hugely hurt and the whole Made in China push has been set back. See article here

Another gives us what these Chinese companies have said. See here

Chery said workers accidentally chose a wrong batch as asbestos is not banned in China.  Great Wall said they changed as soon as they found out.  Both companies had signed agreements to not use any asbestos before going to Australia.

Chinese factories, when overseen and managed closely will be diligent and produce great product.  Assurances from the Chinese side are not enough.  Good contracts are important but not enough. Committed oversight works. No one should be fooled by good samples.  Good consistent oversight is useful and protects our customers overseas.
