Nixon as Seen by Chinese. And What It Means

As Nixon’s landmark visit occurred 40 years ago as of last week, I wanted to note a cultural difference in how Chinese see him.

We see that Nixon resigned after covering up for his friends. Americans generally feel it was wrong for Nixon to do this, and he needed to resign.

Chinese people who know these facts often think Nixon put friends before law and should have been praised.

This is changing as law and order improve here, but 40 years later this idea and tendency is still here.

People will cover for their friend because it is right. So your morally correct employee or supplier might cover up facts because they see it is right to do.
