In managing in China I have always seen people as the most valuable part of my work. Therefore, since my first hire, I have been trying to lower my own people problems by getting the right people the first time and every time.
In fact, it was and is my hires who carried me again and again here in China.
In 1997, when I led a start up US factory, it was my startling placements that solved their need for speed in the start up. It was great hiring that made our quality better then the quality in the US. This happened because I put more effort and better thinking in to hiring while others where just doing the normal thing in recruiting.

In the early 2000’s, I was leading a finance business that was challenging industry standards. It was not my genius KPIs. It was my careful hiring and people focus. Other businesses had people problems and not me.
Due to my startling success in hiring for myself, in the late 2000’s a US holding company hired me to fix their troubled holdings and help their clients as well. It was there that I started to hire people that were not for myself. From the first month I was solving problems that had festered for over a year. I wondered why it was so hard to just understand the customer and get what they need. My hallmark was making impossible or game changing placements.
Knowing that these people would not work for me did move my thinking more. By leadership, I had often been able to draw the best out of hires. In this case, leadership would vary in each company. I needed to do better.
My team and I started to dig deeper. It solved one big gap. More would follow.
I started SHI Group June 10, 2009, 12 years after those first hires in 1997. Now it has been 15 years since I raised the flag for trustworthy talent for better hiring for Western companies active in China.
Having my own company and doing it my own way has made me so happy. Along with Paul, we are glad to offer Trustworthy Talent® in China.
