No one is perfect and no company is perfect, so perfect resumes almost always are hiding something they do not want you to see. People who are skilled in presenting what is not true are called politicians. Politics in business is confusing for everyone and especially for hiring managers. Politicians have a trained ability to deceive to make themselves look better than they are and always at the expense of their company in some cunning way.
Understanding China Resumes Means More Than Reading
Businesses start doubting their best people, and then, some of the best start to resign and not give any useful feedback.
If you are only hiring one person in China, are you safe from these people? Not at all. In this case, they control all or most of your information about your China business. There is little check on their ability to deceive. The damage will actually be much greater.
If your first hire of many is a politician, then every hire after will be damaged, and the whole business will be opaque.
Some resumes are not perfect. Are these hires safe?
No, these are not safe. Many have not learned the deeper rules of a perfect resume. These know simply to make the best company they worked at show on their resume for a 5 year run there. This stretch, therefore, covers over the apparently meaningless jobs and makes it look like they have great experience at great companies.
Actually, there are boatloads of ways to package a resume to make it more then it is. Doubt led us to learn all the facts and kick out the deceivers. The result is we find the needle in the haystack that is the great interview that is also true.
